My commitment to you

I am committed to approaching our work together with authenticity and compassion, seeking to understand you as a whole person, not just a set of problems to solve. Mindfulness, as John Kabat-Zinn describes it, is central to my approach. His definition of the concept is, “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment”. Mindful awareness has the power to naturally guide us toward harmony and integration.

A bit about myself

I'm a husband and father of two young children. Our move to Austin from Okinawa, Japan, where I served in the US Marine Corps, has enriched my perspective on diverse cultures and ideas. My experiences abroad ignited a passion for Eastern philosophy and spirituality, which I find deeply enriching when integrated with contemporary Western psychology. In addition to experience working with military servicemembers and Veterans, I have engaged in crisis intervention work and provided services to people experiencing severe mental illness in a hospital emergency department. I continue to serve part-time in the US Marine Corps Reserves as a Civil Affairs Officer.

Dreams, symbols and metaphor

In our therapeutic journey, I also recognize the profound significance of dreams, symbols and metaphor. Metaphors have a unique power to convey complex emotions and experiences in a way that words alone often cannot. By tapping into the richness of metaphorical language, we can deepen our understanding and exploration of your inner world. Metaphors provide a bridge between conscious and unconscious processes, allowing us to access deeper layers of meaning and insight. They invite creative exploration and offer new perspectives, enriching the therapeutic experience and fostering personal growth. As we navigate through metaphors together, we uncover hidden truths, expand awareness, and cultivate greater resilience and self-discovery.
